Common Questions
Does it slow down my Shopify store?
No. TryOn Virtual uses lazy loading — the 3D engine only initializes when a customer taps Try On. Your store speed score is unaffected. Asset delivery is optimized, WebGL rendering is efficient, and bundle sizes are kept minimal so there is zero impact on initial page load.
Does it affect Shopify Core Web Vitals?
No. The theme extension only adds the try-on button to your product page — that's a lightweight piece of HTML. The widget's heavy assets (3D models, WebGL engine, face-tracking code) are deferred until a customer actually clicks Try On. LCP, CLS, and INP scores remain unchanged on stores that install the app.
Can assets lazy-load?
Yes — that's the default and only behavior. The bootstrap is a small (~3 KB) script that injects the button. The full 3D engine, the product model, and any HDR environment maps only load when a customer clicks Try On — never on initial product-page load. There's no eager-load mode, by design.
Can try-on open only after interaction?
Yes — the widget never auto-opens. Customers see a button on the product page; clicking it loads and opens the try-on overlay. You can customize the button position, label, and styling from the merchant dashboard. This keeps the experience opt-in for shoppers and protects your store's perceived performance.
How are eyewear 3D models created?
Eyewear 3D models are generated from your existing product photos by our built-in AI pipeline — no 3D artist or special photography needed. Upload up to 4 catalog images per frame and the pipeline runs alignment, background removal, geometry reconstruction, PBR material baking, and mobile-AR optimization automatically. Most models complete in under five minutes. See the dedicated 3D model builder page for the full breakdown.
Is it real-time 3D AR or photo overlay?
Both, depending on the product category. Eyewear and watches use real-time AR with face and wrist tracking — the 3D model is rendered live on the customer's webcam feed at 60fps. Clothing, shoes, and jewelry use AI photo swap — the customer uploads a photo and our engine composites the product onto it. Each category uses whichever approach gives the most accurate result.
Does it support live head rotation?
Yes. Eyewear try-on uses 468-landmark face tracking that continuously updates the frame's position, rotation, and depth as the customer moves their head. Temples (frame arms) animate naturally based on head angle — turn your head and the temples adjust like real glasses. Tracking runs at 60fps in the browser.
Does it work well on low-end iPhones and Android devices?
Yes. The widget targets 98% browser coverage (any device with WebGL 2.0). 3D models are polygon-optimized for mobile GPUs and the pipeline is tuned to maintain 60fps on mid-range phones. Performance is verified on iPhone SE / iPhone 11-class devices and entry-level Android (Snapdragon 6-series).
What Shopify themes are supported?
All Shopify 2.0 themes including Dawn, Debut, Refresh, and fully custom themes. Our native theme extension adapts automatically to your theme's structure, styling, and layout without requiring manual code modifications.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. The Starter plan includes 50 try-on sessions per month and 3 free 3D generations. No credit card required. Paid plans start at $49/month with a 14-day free trial — full access to every feature before you commit.
Do I need a developer to set it up?
No. Install from the Shopify App Store with one click. Upload your 3D models (or generate them automatically from product photos), and the try-on button appears on your product pages. The full setup takes under five minutes and is designed for non-technical merchants.
What 3D file formats do you support?
GLB (recommended), GLTF, USDZ, SPZ (Gaussian Splat), and PLY. The merchant dashboard runs automatic quality analysis on every upload — polygon count, texture sizes, and material compatibility — and flags assets that need optimization.
How does virtual try-on increase conversions?
Customers who use virtual try-on see the product on themselves before buying, which builds confidence and reduces purchase hesitation. Brands using virtual try-on report meaningful conversion lifts and reductions in returns (based on industry research).
